Are You a Bride-to-Be?

This wedding guide which I'm about to share is totally based on my own experience. I got more wedding news and stories coming your way!

10 Basic Tips For Low Budget Malay Wedding.

  • Plan a head. At least 6 months before your wedding day. Do a checklist & milestones that you need to achieve. Always up-to-date. At the same time you might need an assistant who has experiences in wedding preparation. For example; your mom, sisters, cousins, or friends. Ask their opinions. It helps a lot.
  • Financial is the key for all matters. Always stay in your budget. Jangan beli sesuka hati. Kalau tak, hutang bertimbun lepas kawen. So, list down all the important things and not so important things as well. Contoh; Katering 50%, Pelamin+Baju Kawen 15%, Photographer+Videographer 15%, Tempat 15%, Kad Jemputan 5%. And yes, yes, yes! save your money as much as you could in every month. For example KURANGKAN berDATING; shopping baju, makan-makan kat tempat mahal, atau tengok movie.
  • A professional wedding photographer and videographer is often expensive to hire. All you need to do is always follow on their update blogs or facebook pages & wait for their promotions. Yet, it is very important for you to see the samples of their previous work. Please don't think that a videographer is not so important to your wedding. & Please DON'T ask your friend (with no experience in photography) to take photos or video for the entire ceremony- nak save budget laa konon.. As you want to see your wedding photos for the rest of your life, so choose a good photographer wisely. Or else, kamu akan menyesal nanti.. Sob,sob, sob..
  • Please do a LOT of surveys from internet or at Pameran Pengantin. Contoh; Katering, Dewan, Hotel, Pelamin, Baju kawen, Khemah, Makeup, Door gifts & sebagainya. Compare their price & the quality as well. Apa gunanya kalau murah tapi tiada kualiti kan?? So, JANGAN MALAS ye. Keep on searching. Don't take risk, ok.
  •  Always look forward for SALE items to buy barang hantaran or things that you need on your wedding. Normally Mega Sale is on March, August, and December (if I'm not mistaken). You can save a lot of money. You can check information about sale at this website.
  • Wanna go to a romantic place for your honeymoon?? Always alert to Air Asia website for their Promotion (Flight+Hotel). It's so worth it. Murah!
  • Setting your wedding date is very important. If you could, avoid from school holiday season. Kalau tak boleh, nak buat macam mana, kan... Sebab semua harga barang mentah naik & resources (pelamin/baju/makeup/khemah/dewan) are all limited. Plus, total guests kita tak pasti sebab ramai orang kawen pada hari yang sama. Jadi, agak membazir kalau makanan order banyak, tapi guests yang datang sikit.
  • Always discuss with your partner before making decisions. Never ever make decisions while you're in EMOtional mood. It can be worst- Disaster!!!
  •  If you're super smart, choose to buy barang hantaran which can use on your wedding (reception). For example: suits, shirt, tie, lace shoes, high heels and etc.
  • Always use networking that you have. But make sure you suka dengan hasil kerja diaorang & mereka boleh dipercayai :)

Getting Started

Majlis Akad Nikah
  • Uruskan semua prosedur akad nikah
    • Kursus Kahwin
    • HIV Test

 Majlis Resepsi & lain-lain
  • Tempat Majlis
    • Pilih tempat yang sesuai mengikut kapasiti jumlah tetamu yang ditetapkan. If not, your guests might not feel comfortable / might having trouble with the seats.
Booking tempat & bayar deposit.
    • Kebanyakkan pengantin sekarang ni lebih suka memilih dewan. Convenience. Tak perlu kemas rumah & senang guests nak parking kereta
    • Paling jimat kalau buat majlis kat rumah. But you need to do extra work. Yes! Kemas rumah- before & after the ceremony. Instead of pelamin, you might also need to consider about decorations in Pengantin Room
  • Katering
    • Food testing? Erm, I rasa tak perlu kot. Mesti dia siap-siap buat yang very the best punye kan.. So, all you need to do, is ask other people who familiar or recently used on their services
  • Photographers & Videographers
    • Pastikan harga menepati budget anda yer... Kalau tak, silap-silap lepas kawen tak dapat buat full payment. Malu yang amat. Ada je kawan-kawan photographers I citer, "wedding punye laa grand tapi album nak dekat setahun still tak bayar-bayar". Berlambak-lambak album yang tak dituntut. Bila call, ada je alasan lain.
    • Choose the best photographer for your wedding day. Tak semestinya kena ambik Saiful Nang or other principal photographers. Cukup sekadar pandai setting camera+lighting, pandai cari angle & pandai editing. That's all.
    • Perlu tengok jugak besar mana size album gambar & jenis album.
    • Same goes to videographer. Once again, I repeat. Sangat penting untuk majlis akad nikah
  •  MakeUp
    • Jangan kedekut- in spending money for your makeup. You need to be extra gorgeous on your special day.
    • Tanya pendapat kawan-kawan yang dah kawen. They know a lot. If you choose a wrong person, that would be disaster day of your life.
    • The best way is to test their makeup before your wedding day.
  •  Kad Kahwin
    • Don't spend too much on the wedding card. Yes, lepas majlis kad itu dibuang begitu sahaja :)
    • Choose the simple one, but not toooo simple. Sebab kad kahwin menggambarkan majlis perkahwinan kita.
    • Ikut budget.
    • Banyakkan survey & tanya pendapat kawan-kawan.
  •  Baju Pengantin
    • Pilih design & colour baju sesuai dengan korang. & the most important thing, choose the right size for your body. (yes, nanti kene kutuk. huhu!)
    • Kalau tempah baju lagi bagus. You can keep them & buat frame kat rumah :P
  • Barang Hantaran
    • Beli barang semasa SALE.
    • It's ok to buy them early (sebab tak basi pon kan).
    • Strategize your money. Contoh; 1 bulan- plan beli dalam 1 atau 2 barang. Jadi, tak terasa duit keluar banyak & kepala tak serabut
    • Decorations of hantaran- set the theme & types of flowers that you want to use. Fresh flowers is much cheaper than artificial flowers. Just buy them at Petaling Street. Besides, you can also use them for a bouquet too
    • Alas hantaran & dulang hantaran- kalau nak jimat, pinjam. Kalau tak, terpaksa sewa kat butik. No choice
    • Ask somebody that you know to do the decorations for you (For FREE). Contoh, makcik-makcik, kakak atau kawan-kawan.

My Wedding Experience

  • Place
    • Masjid Al-Ghufran - The Solemnization
      • This mosque is the most convenience place among others. Masjid ini menyediakan bilik tidur (tingkat 3) serendah RM 60 semalaman. Most of my husband's relatives from kelantan stayed here. Sangat senang. Diaorang just turun lift untuk majlis keesokkan paginya. Plus, you can go to their office to arrange the Imam for your ceremony (Imam dia muda & sporting). He's so helpful.
      • One more thing, make sure you're not having period on that time. I siap makan ubat delay period lagi. Kalau tak, diaorang tak benarkan you buat majlis di masjid (Hukumnya: haram). They do have a small hall for akad nikah. Tapi tak cukup nak menampung semua tetamu yang datang.
      • Total guests = Minimum is 200 guests
      • We used their package for our wedding. Murah. Total majlis (including sewa dewan solat, sewa ruang kafe, makan-makan untuk 200 orang, & decorations) was RM 4,350. But unfortunately, pakej kawen kat sini dah mahal, sebab tukar katering.
    • Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant - First Reception
      • I called this small ceremony as Memorable Dinner
      • We invited especially for family members & close friends
      • Paid RM 155.25 per adults and RM 86.25 per child ( a little bit expensive compare to lunch time)
      • Purpose of this ceremony was to get to know both sides. Majlis ni sangat santai. Just having dinner & chatting most of the time.
    • Mum's Place Restaurant - 2nd Reception
      • I called this ceremony as On Wings Of Happiness Luncheon
      • We invited especially for friends
      • It's the cheapest restaurant if you compared to Restaurant Puteri & Bora Asmara (Their wedding package costs around RM 45 per person & ada minimum guest)
      • We invited 200 guests. It costs only RM 28 per person. However, we decided to add ABC for extra dessert. So, we just add another RM 2. Here's the food that they served:
        • Fried Spring Rolls served with Chilli Sauce
        • Assorted Yong Tau Foo served with Chilli & Sweet Sauce
        • Fried Kuey Tiaw
        • Fried Chicken served with Thai Dip
        • Lemak Kuning Sotong
        • Prawns Sambal with Petai
        • Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet
        • Mixed Vegetables with Button Mushroom
      • For desserts
        • Bubur Pengat Pisang
        • ABC (ais kacang)
        • Mixed Fruits
        • Fruit Punch Cordial for drinks
      • The owner of this restaurant is so kind & friendly. We & the guests were satisfied on their food and services.
    • Majlis Bertandang
      • Was held in Kelantan
      • Invited 500 guests (sebab area kampong)
      • The expenses was a lot cheaper compared in KL (what do you expect, kan?)
      • Catering -We paid only RM11 per person (If I'm not mistaken). Lauk?? 10 jenis!! (termasuk gulai daging, ayam msk merah, acar, solok lada, kerabu sarang, & much more. The dessert: bubur pulut hitam, agar-agar, & kuih akok) Heaven ok.

    •  Videographer
      • All ceremonies (except in Kelantan) :  Rosli Mohamed & Zabidi Ali from CST Production
** They did an awesome job! Yes, they are professional & the best thing is they're all my friends.
So, we got super duper discount price :)
    •  Make Up Artiste
      • All ceremonies (except in Kelantan): Bosco Ryzarl. He's a professional makeup for local celebrities, fashion shows, and weddings. Plus, he's a good friend of mine. & once again, I got a special price.
      • If you're interested, you can check out his Fb page or call +6016 609 1614
    Make Up by Bosco Ryzarl
      • For Majlis Bertandang in Kelantan : Iwan Fancy. He's also a wedding decorator.

      •  Attire
        • Semua baju kawen I tempah
        • The reasons why I tempah baju kawen
          • Saiz badan I special :P
          • Boleh nampak duit mengalir ke mana. Kalau sewa baju, duit end kat situ saje
          • Boleh pakai balik whenever I attend to dinner or formal ceremonies.
        • Here's the tailor address:
          • Irene, Wisma Hock Ann, 66-1A, 2nd Floor, Jalan Hj. Hussein, 50300 KL
          • No phone: 03- 26988048
          • So far, this is the best tailor that I've ever found. Harga tempah sepasang (kain lace) dari RM 250 hingga RM 500. Depends pada jenis kain. Kalau banyak sangat manik, memang mahal. Even datin-datin and owner butik pengantin pun tempah kat situ.
          • Warning: Tempat tailor ni sangat horror. (It's an old Flat, in front of Brisdale Hotel)
          • Banyak advantages kalau tempah kat tailor ni:
            • Cepat siap (2 to 3 weeks). You can request.
            • Jahitan kemas.
            • Kalau kita rasa ketat/ longgar masa fitting baju, dia akan betulkan on the spot. Save time.
Just bring the design, and ask her opinion.
          • Baju Melayu : Tempah kat Omar Ali di KL
            • RM 120 sepasang. So far, jahitan baju melayu kat situ memuaskan.

I think that's all for now. Kitaorang memang tak invite ramai guest macam orang lain selalu buat. Our budget are limited. Kitaorang decided nak buat ceremony macam ni sebab boleh entertain semua guests yang datang. However, soon after our wedding, one this common statement came out. "Eh, ko dah kawen, dah... Tak jemput aku pon.."How do you guys react? Come on people, there are some reasons why they didn't invite us to their wedding. Please do understand their situations.
